Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

You do not need to give us any personal data to browse theoceanguide.com. We collect only a limited amount of information:

  • Audience measurement through Google Analytics — pages viewed, approximate country, device and browser — used in aggregate to understand what people look for and improve the site.
  • Your answer to the cookie banner, so that we do not ask again on every visit.
  • Sign-in details for the small number of administrator accounts that manage the content of the site.

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which receives the technical information every browser sends (such as your IP address and browser type) in order to deliver and protect the site. Maps are loaded from OpenFreeMap, which receives your IP address when a page shows a map. Google and Cloudflare may process this data in the United States, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as providing adequate protection.

2. Cookies and Consent

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics is not loaded until you accept it, so nothing is sent to Google before then. If you accept, Google Analytics sets its own cookies to recognise returning visits. Outside these countries, Google Analytics runs from your first visit, without any advertising features, and you can turn it off at any time. Either way we store one small cookie recording your answer, and you can change it at any time with the "Cookie settings" button below. If you are under 14, please ask a parent or guardian before accepting Google Analytics. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 14.

3. Your Rights

You can withdraw your consent at any time. You can also ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or stop using it, or to send you a copy in a portable format. If you think we have not handled your data properly, you can complain to a data protection authority; in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es). Write to us at the address below and we will reply within one month.
